In 1478, Pope Sixtus IV issued a decree authorizing the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella, to root out heresy in the Spanish kingdoms. The inquisition quickly turned its attention to ridding the region of people who were not part of the Catholic Church— leading to more than 350 years of ethnic cleansing.

Much progress has been made in genealogy investigations after the laws of Spain and Portugal to opt for the nationalities of those countries if it is possible to demonstrate the descent from Sepharad ancestors.
 

The Liberator of five nations share these ancestors as explained in detail by Dr. Meyer Magarici in his paper Sephardic Ancestors of the Liberator Simón Bolívar. Cesc. Doctor Méyer Magarici is a Venezuelan pediatrician, who in recent years has dedicated himself to genealogy, especially of the descendants of those expelled from Spain and Portugal in the 15th and 16th centuries. He has published his work in the Maguén magazine, of the Center for Sephardic Studies of Caracas.
 

Although it is a bit late to obtain nationality, I share with you in Happy and Healthy our Jewish roots, which are in this line the same as those of Simón Bolívar but have other lines of the Arias family from Costa Rica.
 

Abraham HaLeví de Burgos's 20th great-grandson is Rafael Alberto Vilagut-Vega.
