Im Frühling 2008 traf sich eine Gruppe von Gesundheitsexperten und Geschäftsleuten, die die positiven
Eigenschaften ätherischer Öle aus eigener Erfahrung kannten und die gemeinsame Vision hatte, einen neuen Qualitätsstandard für ätherische Öle in therapeutischer Qualität zu setzen. ätherische Öle höchster Qualität beziehen, testen und herstellen könnten —reiner und wirksamer als jedes andere Öl auf dem Markt?“, „Was wäre, wenn wir mit großen Krankenhäusern, Medizinern, Wissenschaftlern und Experten professionell zusammenarbeiten könnten, um weltweit eine umfassende Anerkennung ätherischer Öle zu erreichen?“ Sie gelangten schließlich zum Schluss, dass sie durch harte Arbeit und Engagement für eine gemeinsame Leidenschaft und Vision neue Maßstäbe auf dem Gebiet der Gesundheit setzen könnten. Mit dieser Überzeugung gründeten sie das Unternehmen „dōTERRA“. Der Name leitet sich aus dem Lateinischen ab und steht für „Geschenk der Erde“. Die ersten 25 individuellen Öle und zehn Ölmischungen von dōTERRA wurden am 25. April 2008 unter Beifall von Fachleuten und begeisterten Nutzern der Produkte vorgestellt, die die überragende Qualität der ätherischen Öle von dōTERRA in therapeutischer Qualität von Anfang an erkannten.
