A book lover's dream come true.

The library is part of the Binhai Cultural Center’s five central attraction, located in Binhaixinqu, Tianjin, China.

This project went from preliminary drawings to its doors opening within three years, 2015-2017. "One interesting thing about this library is that it doesn't have the formal ground rule of library in which everyone has to stay silent and be calm for to just focus in reading. The thing is that, it gives people to have a public place which they can have freedom. That is why even if there are some events happening near the library the library will be opened and give the service as usual."

"Aside from loaning books this library also offers services such as taking soft copy of the book and downloading other information or documents that you need. As you walk near the book shelf you may also notice a lot of small holes on the wall of book shelves, these holes purpose is to prevent all kind of sounds from bouncing around and coursing echo."

This library has been designed by the Rotterdam-based architectural firm MVRDV along with the Tianjin Urban Planning and Design Institute (TUPDI), a group of local architects.

Other projects same architectural firm MVRDV (Tianjin Binhai New Area Library): Villa VPRO, Hilversum, Silodam Housing complex, Amsterdam, Dutch Pavilion at the Hannover World Exhibition Expo 2000, Edificio Celosía, Madrid, Gemini Residence, The Gyre, Tokyo, Market Hall Rotterdam.

"Loaning books here is really simple if you have your ID registered. What you have to do is just choose the book that you want to loan, and put the all books on the device and scan it, and it will automatically register the books itself. You can loan 1 to 8 books at a time for a month, you can renew the books loan and extend a month of reading time if you want too just by filling some information on the website of the Binhai Library."
